Tackling Waste One Sip at a Time

Sep 5, 2019

The news is all about commercial recycling, compostability and biodegradability – but how do consumers reliably know whether their takeaway cup is recyclable, compostable, biodegradable or landfill only?

We talk about getting consumers to change their habits by buying glass or bamboo reusable coffee cups. Then we expect them to seek out a bin to put the empties in, or wash the cups every time they use them so they are ready for reuse.

These measures go some way toward tackling the global issue of more than half a trillion coffee cups being sent to landfill sites annually, but they do not solve the problem.

Indeed, according to WasteMINZ Chief Executive Paul Evans, the composting option is so difficult that “The advice we give people now is that you should put your coffee cup or your cold cup in the rubbish wherever you are in the country”.

In 2009, Chinese brothers Tom and Peak, concerned by the waste mountain crisis on our planet, formed a company with the singular goal of “making a totally plant-based product that would be strong and yet mouldable and be able to be used at all levels of the food service industry”.

At the 2019 Fine Food trade show in Sydney, Tom and Peak will introduce their product that is: 100% recyclable, biodegradable and domestically compostable, and also able to withstand 100 degrees C without heat distortion.

Suitable for: Injection moulding, Blow Film moulding, Extrusion moulding and Blister moulding.

Come and meet Tom and his team at stand B57. Ask about the FDA, European Din Certco mark, and other industry endorsements.

If you are looking for the breakthrough product of the new millennium… this is it!
