What’s more Aussie than a classic meat pie? For over three decades, the Official Great Aussie Pie Competition had celebrated the humble pie – and its flaky pastry cousins – as true national treasures.
Now in its 37th year, this fiercely loved industry competition brought together experts from across the country, all there to find the best pie of 2025. Hosted by the Great Aussie Pie Council and judged live on the show floor, the competition was more than a tradition – it was a launchpad for recognition for bakeries doing it well.
Visitors witnessed the action up close as expert judges put Australia’s best pies, sausage rolls, and pastries to the taste test – critiquing everything from flavour and texture to presentation and consistency. Judging categories included:
• Australia’s Official Greatest Meat Pie
• Australia’s Official Greatest Gourmet Pie
• Australia’s Official Greatest Plain Sausage Roll
• Australia’s Official Greatest Gourmet Sausage Roll
• Australia’s Official Greatest Meat Pastie
The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition will be returning from 31 August to 3 September 2026 at MCEC Melbourne, bringing attendees another opportunity to witness an industry benchmark for excellence in the art of pie making.
