Banana Business Booms

Apr 8, 2014

New banana vending machines have sprung up at two Queensland sites due to consumer support.

The ‘Banana Bar’ was cultivated by a Queensland banana growing family, MacKays Bananas, who saw a need in the market for accessible fresh fruit.

Daniel MacKay of MacKays Bananas launched their first machine earlier this year in a Brisbane food court and has since expanded his network of ‘Banana Bars’ into the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and the Roma Street Transit Centre.

In an interview with Australian Food News, Mackay said “tens of thousands of Australians work or visit public locations where fresh healthy fruit is not always convenient or accessible”.

“With this strong consumer support continuing for the ‘Banana Bar’, we have identified two further new locations to be rolled out this year” MacKay said.
